Building Elegance finalizes The Cosmopolitan project in Brussels
Over the past months, Building Elegance has been busy to supply around 500 sliding shutters for the prestigious new high-end apartment building ‘The Cosmopolitan’ in Brussels, the capital of Belgium.
The Cosmopolitan, designed by architects Bogdan & Van Broeck, is being developed by Real estate Developer Besix Red.
The remarkable tower is situated in a green part of Brussels, but is still very close to where the action is. The comfortable apartments have balconies, which offer an amazing view of the city.
Building Elegance is proud to be the supplier of the sliding shutters, which contribute to the unmistakable signature of the building. Apart from being extremely robust to withstand the possible high wind loads, the shutters create a dynamic view of the façade, which triggers the imagination. A playful element, which really sets The Cosmopolitan apart from other buildings. As wonderful as the final result of the building process will be, the supply and installation of the shutters proved to be a real challenge.
Joris Van den Dries, Sales Director, comments: ‘This is one of the most challenging projects I have been involved in. The location is in a densely built city area where storage of goods is not possible. We came up with a just-in-time solution whereby we supplied only two pallets with shutters at a time. We lifted the pallets directly on the lift scaffolding, using a mobile crane on the truck. Within hours the shutters were installed by our installer team on site. We repeated this on a daily basis, during more than a month. This was a critical operation, since we also had to take into account the specific order of placement of the shutters, taking into account size and perforation pattern of each shutter. It was a complicated puzzle, but we did it’.
