Building Elegance to supply and install shutters at Post X in Berchem, Belgium
Building Elegance has recently been selected to supply and install 178 motorized sliding- and 44 folding shutters for Building 8, part of the large Post X project, in Berchem (Antwerp). All shutters will be custom-made for seamless integration in the façade and consist of high-quality anodized aluminum cassettes.
Joris Van den Dries, Sales Director for the Benelux and France, comments on the specific challenges in this project: ‘Engineering the system was highly complicated. The thermal and acoustical requirements were at a unprecedented high level. Therefore, the usual consoles, to support our shutters, could not be used. With solid engineering and even more creativity we have been able to come up with a great solution. We have succeeded to place the 61 motors, which power the shutters, in such a way that they don’t interfere with the performance of the façade’.
The final design is the result of good coordination between Besix, the main contractor, Aldowa, the façade contractor, and Hurks, the producer of the windows. Building 8 is scheduled for commissioning in July 2018.

Background on the Post X project development
Post X is urban renewal project, initiated by Iret Development. It aims to create a balanced mix between office and educational use, supplemented by retail and leisure facilities. The prominent architects Stéphan Beel and Jaspers‑Eyers are responsible for the design work.
Post X is different from many other projects and business centers around major cities. Ten comparable buildings are built together in a compact setting. Each building will have its specific characteristics, depending on its use. Post X, and this makes it really special, will create a link between the city (of Antwerp) and the ring road with ongoing traffic.
The masterplan for Post X was developed in close cooperation with the city of Antwerp. As of January 2016, the buildings have been commissioned, one by one, creating a surface of some 115.000m² once completed.
The unique location is a magnet for companies involved in future mobility concepts. The access by public transportation and the proximity of railway station Antwerp-Berchem plays a key role in this. On top of this, Post X is located next to the Antwerp ring road, which allows very easy access by car. This makes it a winning combination. Hundreds of thousands drivers on the ring road will pass and see Post X, every single day.
Post X is an integrated concept, combining offices, shops, restaurants, a hotel, and leisure and sports facilities. This stimulates an environment where work and leisure are literally closely and conveniently linked, helping to improve work-life balance of the large community of various office users at Post X.
